True to the scripture, God only gives us what we ask for if we ask according to His will—irrespective of strong faith and lengthy prayers.
1John 5:14-15
Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.
James 4: 3
You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures.
Based on this scriptural truth, many believers have taken Pit that God only heals those He wills to heal, and those He isn’t willing to heal, He ignores their petitions for healing, their3 faith and fervent prayers notwithstanding.
However, in the case of healing, the bible leaves us with nothing to muse regarding the will of God. In fact, if we ever get to seek the will of God about healing, it will be seeking to find out if He intends to withdraw our healing because He has already consummated our healing even before we could ever need it
Isaiah 53:5
But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed.1Peter 2:24
Who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were heal.
You see, we are healed by His stripes, not even by our prayer nor by our crying.
At the same spot, He was wounded for our transgressions, bruised for our iniquities, bore the chastisement for our peace, and settled the demand of our salvation, He also bore the stripes that settled the account of our healing. So that upon accepting Him as our Lord and saviour we can just receive healing like withdrawing cash from a well-loaded bank account. That is why the bible says,
“Who forgives all your iniquities, who heals all your diseases.” (Ps 103: 3)
Which implies that at the same time, in the same way and manner He forgives our sins, He also heals our diseases. At the same cost, the finished works of Christ, He grants us forgiveness, He also grants us healing.
Our salvation is one pack too many. It encompasses
- Forgiveness of our sins
- Deliverance from the devil’s oppression
- Acceptance into the kingdom of God
- Healing of our diseases,
- .And on the long run, glorification together with the resurrected Christ
Healing is to be received just freely by faith without any inhibition! To conclude that God heals those He chooses to heal and ignores others simply because among His worshippers, some are healed while others languish in their sickness and even at the worst instance, sometimes, die in it is tantamount to saying that because many people are not saved today—including some fragrantly sanctimonious worshippers of God—God saves those He chooses to save and dooms others.
However, that is distantly far from our gracious God
- who will have all men to be saved (1Tim.2:4)
- Who has no pleasure at all that the wicked should die but that he should turn from his way and live (Ezek. 18:23; 32)
- Who is the saviour of all men (1Tim. 4:10)
- Who has given His grace for salvation to all men (Titus 2:11)
- Who for His unwillingness that anyone should perish but that all should come to repentance, has been so long-suffering about bringing the world to an end to the point that scoffers and naïve folks have counted Him slack in fulfilling His promise (2Pet. 3:9).
God is willing and ready to save all who believe in Christ. And the same Christ who bore the chastisement for our peace—reconciliation with God—also bore the stripes that made us whole. Therefore, we do not receive the saviour Christ differently, and receive again, the healer Christ. We are saved as well as healed at the same time; and at the same cost equally—the finished works of Christ.
The reason so many followers of Christ continue in their sick state while others get healed is just the same reason a mammoth crowd thronged Christ, but only the haemorrhagic woman got healing (Matt. 9:20-22). They were all following Him, shouting and crying to Him with a heart of unbelief: a heart devoid of faith.
God doesn’t heal those He chooses to heal any more than He forgives those He chooses to forgive their sins! God is not willing to heal some people and unwilling to heal others any more than he is willing to save some people and unwilling to save others! He forgives and saves all who believe in Christ as well as heals all who believe in Christ at the same time and at the same cost—the finished works of Christ.
